Adventureland XL

ANNOUNCING…New Name and Teaser Trailer

Posted by Clopas on Sunday, April 21, 2019

SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN, May 1st, 2019 – Scott Adams, his wife Roxanne, and the game developers that have joined their young game studio, Clopas LLC, unveiled their latest project, Adventureland XL with a teaser trailer at the Midwest Gaming Classic Expo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The game aims to delight retro and classical adventure aficionados while appealing to a new generation of players hungry for modern interactive fiction. This follows on the heels of their previous Conversational Adventure game in collaboration with Soma Games LLC, Lost Legends of Redwall: Escape the Gloomer released November 2018 on Steam with Amazon Alexa and mobile versions (Android/iOS) releasing later this month.

Adventureland XL is the redux of the first-ever text-based adventure game created by Scott Adams and Adventure International in 1978, Adventureland. Adventureland XL is a new Conversational Adventure™ game for new and returning players alike in which your task is to recover lost treasures. While this reimaging has much of the old game which many players love, this new title comes rocketing into the 21st century jam-packed with new puzzles, characters, music, art, and treasures just waiting to be discovered.

When informed of the news, famed astronaut and creator of the videogame Shroud of the Avatar, Richard Garriott (“Lord British”) said, “I got into the games industry pretty early, but one of the people who greatly inspired me to both learn what these machines could do, and to try and master the craft of interactive storytelling, was Scott Adams. I played his games with eager glee, to see what treasures lay within. I eagerly await the release of Adventureland XL!

Introducing our new Slogan

Experience Your Heartfelt Imagination!™

Introducing our New Slogan

Wondering what that slogan at the top of our website is about? Well, we wanted to create a short foundational statement that describes Conversational Adventure™ games. It’s essence can be described in four words: “Experience Your Heartfelt Imagination!™

Here’s what we mean:

EXPERIENCE – We want you to live it; this is interactive, not passive. Rest on the couch if you want, but moving forward will require you to act. Our games are designed to be played out in your mind and realized through your fingertips.

YOUR – It’s personal. This is your adventure and we’re designing it with you in mind.

HEARTFELT – You are not a robot making objective decisions. You have values and beliefs at your core that matter; and if we can stir your heart in a way that’s meaningful to you, so much the better.

IMAGINATION – We are not asking you to recycle old patterns or learn an intricate series of button combos. We’re asking you to tap your mind with new directions and new possibilities. We want to unleash your potential.

Soma Games releases Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout

First game in the series now available on Steam

Soma Games, under license from Random House, is creating a six game series entitled The Lost Legends of Redwall, which is based on the books by Brain Jacques. The first game in that series, Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout, released on Steam this September. It’s a whimsical adventure game set in the winter shrouded wilderness between Lilygrove and Redwall Abbey. Help Liam or Sophia race for help from the raiding rats under Scumsnout’s command. Team Clopas, meanwhile, is working on the next release in the series, The Lost Legends of Redwall: Escape the Gloomer, which is due out Fall 2018. We wish the Soma team much success and congratulate them on their release.

Lost Legends of Redwall: Escape the Gloomer – Art Reveal

New, Finalized Icon

Escape the Gloomer Icon

Thanks to the artistry of Erin Marantette, Art Director at Soma Games, we have a new game icon. It features the game’s main character, Gillig the Otter with a red “R” (for Redwall of course) at bottom right. A small step perhaps, but Team Clopas is in high gear as we get closer to releasing the game on Steam.

Game playable from start to finish; playtesting phase begins

Scott completed the last of nine chapters and Team Clopas immediately began playtesting. Roxanne, our Chief Operations Officer, has begun scheduling local area playtesters and the team is eager to examine and analyze their feedback.

Meanwhile, the Narrative team has been crafting an immersive detailed story for Players to enjoy. Using words to paint a gripping adventure, their objective is to create an open world feel while imparting an unfolding character arc for Gillig the Otter, the main character of the game.

Additionally, our Database and Programming team have been busy playtesting, creating a smooth player experience, and integrating the original art and sound effects into the game. And thanks to Soma Games, we’ve received our first audition for the professional voice acting that will be integrated into all the narrative and dialogue.

Lots of hard work is beginning to pay off. We look forward to sharing the complete game with all of you.
